Each of the artists in this exhibit have their own unique voice as well as a strong sense of craftsmanship in their work, whether manipulating found objects, stitching, or molding in wax. Conceived in conjunction with a city-wide celebration of Women’s history month, these works both embrace and challenge expectations of the feminine. Viewers will find a variety of themes and inspirations, including beauty, aging, fertility and environ-mental concerns. There is a complexity in concept along with an adept and surprising use of materials. J Carpenter’s slender towers created of balanced wax eggs, are elegant gravity defying symbols of fertility, presenting both strength and fragility. Mollie Thonneson’s lovely floating forms seem like familiar organisms but a closer look may reveal the unusual. Suprina transforms found objects and odds and ends into truly original works of art. Her conscious choices create pieces that range from intense to humorous. Maggie Ens’ sculptural assemblages imagine a dream like world and her recycling of masses of man-made items coalesce into appealing compositions while also summoning concern for consumer culture.

*The exhibit is free and open to the public 9:00am-5:00pm , March 8- April 2 2016. *
